Oral Health
Dental Hygiene
In addition to the meticulous cleaning, polishing, and examination of your teeth, we also take the time to help our patients develop proper oral hygiene habits at home. We will evaluate your hygiene techniques and make adjustments to your routine where needed. Our doctors and hygienists will also make suggestions for preventative measures such as dental sealants or night guards to protect against bruxism and TMJ.
Oral Cancer Screening
During your dental exam, we will check your entire mouth for any lumps or patches. Screening for early changes in the oral tissue can help detect cancer at a stage when it can be more successfully treated.
Scaling and Root Planning
Scaling and root planning often consists of a fine ultrasonic tip being placed between the tooth and gum tissue. This is done to remove any plaque and calculus buildup below the gum line. Once the deposits have been removed, the surface of the root is smoothed. This procedure keeps the area clean and allows the periodontal ligaments to reattach. We may recommend an antibiotic or prescription mouth rinse to help control the bacteria that cause periodontal disease. You can expect to be very comfortable during this procedure and there is rarely any pain following the procedure.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants act as a barrier, protecting teeth against decay-causing bacteria. Your dentist or hygenist will apply the sealant to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth where decay occurs most often.
Brush and Floss
Brushing and flossing your teeth is one of the most effective ways to remove visible plaque build-up from your teeth. Dr. Rogers recommends daily flossing and brushing in order to minimize the bacterial deposits that cause cavities and gum disease. All dentists will agree that a gentle brushing with a soft toothbrush is more effective and less damaging to the surrounding gums. Make daily brushing and flossing a habit and be rewarded with a cleaner, healthier smile.
Fluoride
Fluoride is a common mineral found in the water we drink and the food we eat, and is an easy way to help prevent cavity causing decay. Fluoride is absorbed by your body and used by the cells that build your teeth to create a stronger tooth structure. We always recommend fluoride treatment or fluoride toothpaste as a preventative tool for your dental health. For more information about prevention ask our hygienist.
TMJ TREATMENT
Checking the bite and adjusting the occlusion to help with clicking, popping, grinding, and clenching associated with joint problems. This can also help with headaches associated with joint dysfunction.
